The most commonly used C5 board backed envelopes are now slightly smaller than traditional C5 envelopes. This is because the reduced size C5 envelope qualifies as a standard or small letter size under Royal Mail ‘Pricing in Proportion’ rules... with reduced postage or postal charges. That is why they are normally now sold as C5 PiP Board Back Envelopes or C5 PiP Hard Back Envelopes & the traditional size as a C5 Plus size Board Backed Envelope.

They are also perfect for Official First Day Covers (1970s onwards) for stamp collectors as they can fit the DL envelopes (110mm x 220mm).
